ANOTHER DAY

“Wake from your sleep. I’m drying all your tears, today. Today, we escape.” (Radiohead - Exit Music) Tom was hard to find. He always is. But we found him as a product of our back-and-forth efforts, being torched by the sun and questioned by Honolulu citizens baffled by our aimlessness here in rugged downtown Chinatown. I would have never thought my break-days would consist of spending time with broken people. Three of us stand casting shadows onto his hungover body sprawled out the length of the bus stop bench. I kneel, becoming prepared to make level eye ...

How To Choose The Right Discipleship Training School

As you compare discipleship training schools, choose a program that suits your season of life and age group, plus the time you can realistically give, with Bible teaching, mentoring, outreach work, and community. The right fit should deepen your faith and give direction, while helping you take the next step. Key Takeaways Pick discipleship training schools that fit the season you’re actually in, instead of choosing mainly for travel or ministry ...

REGGIE’S STORY

In Acts they talk about The Upper Room or the room upstairs, it’s the place where the Holy Spirit came to meet this congregation of people. A bunch of other super awesome/crazy things happened there too. It paints this picture for me of one of the most genuine, authentic, non-fabricated times of worship and crying out to the LORD I’ve ever seen. It really is so beautiful to read about that these people were praying asking God to send the person He was talking about right before He ascended back into Heaven and all the sudden they hear the sound of wind and then the ...

EMMA’S STORY

Aloha, I have been loving the RevHI life so far. God has been speaking to me, and revealing himself to me in new ways everyday. He continues to stretch me, and help me grow all the time. I'm learning so much about the bible, and God's character. Outreach on Sunday nights is one of my favorite things we do in RevHI. We have the opportunity to go out to the people, meet them where they're at, and share the love of Jesus with them. One Sunday night during outreach I was walking down Hotel St. There was a lady sitting on the sidewalk talking to herself. I sat down ...

A REVHI RETURN

As many of you know, in 2015 I took a break from school and sailed off to Hawaii as part of a year-long discipleship program. One component of the program is community service which is carried out in 1 of 2 communities - Waianae or Chinatown. I didn’t have a preference, and was placed in Waianae. I absolutely loved the people in Waianae (especially my church friends), but I have to be honest in saying that most of my days in Waianae felt confusing, tiresome and lonely. I knew I wasn’t serving in an area that I was passionate about, and I felt that I was being ineffec...

GETTING CLOSE

It’s hard to believe that I only have another week and a half left of RevHi before summer mission begins. This past month has definitely flown by. In addition to our normal schedule within the communities this month we have had a few different events to serve at. On the 21st of April the Chinatown and Waianae Teams were able to take around 40 kids to the Oahu Junior Soldier rally where they were able to learn more about the Salvation Army, Jesus and connect with peers from different corps on the Island. That day some of us were able to help the Kaneohe Corps get ...

DESTINY’S STORY

When you join a program like Revolution Hawaii there isn’t much to prepare you for all that God is going to do in your life, or any way to express what He did do once it happens. It’s a journey that only the ones who travel it can truly understand. There is a lot of stepping, falling, and getting back up that happens in the course of the year long program but it’s impossible to briefly describe them all so I’ll share with you the most important message God taught me during this journey. I was in a pretty bad place with my walk with God before I came to Revolut...
